FAQ
Below is a series of frequently asked questions. If you can't find the answer you're looking for, feel free to e-mail Natalie Anthony at nanthony@themeetingplace.mb.ca and your question will be directed to the appropriate person.
What can I expect upon arriving at The Meeting Place?
On entering our building, a greeter will provide you with the Glance, our weekly program outlining upcoming events and happenings at TMP. If you have children, you'll be directed to our Kids Core area on the lower level, where volunteers will assist you with your child's registration. When you're ready to take a seat in our main auditorium or balcony (accessible by elevator or stairs), an usher will help you find a chair. If you require further information regarding TMP, visit a volunteer at our Information Center at the back of the auditorium.
Where can I park?
We have FREE parking for Sunday Service attendees in the parkade next to TMP on all 3 levels.
How can I donate to TMP?
If you wish to donate to the on-going ministry of The Meeting Place, your options are as follows:
Cash: To receive a tax receipt, use an offering envelope and fill in your full name, address and amount given.
Cheque: We automatically issue tax receipts for all cheque donations - no envelope required. Make sure your cheques always show your current address. We also accept post-dated cheques.
On-line: You can add TMP as a payee when banking online. Contact your branch for details. You can also go to www.telpay.ca to set up an account. Either way, use your home/main phone number as your account number.
Pre-Authorized Giving: You can have your donation transferred automatically from your bank account on a regular schedule by filling out this form. Please submit the original with a void cheque to the Information Centre or the church office.
Planned Giving: If you wish to name TMP as a beneficiary in your will or life insurance policy, call our office for more information.
When are tax receipts issued?
Tax receipts are issued at the end of February. You'll receive these at a designated table at the church, or in your home mailbox. If you have moved during the year, please provide us with your new address so we can get your receipt to you.
Can I designate funds to specific ministries?
Because it is important that our resources be distributed fairly among ministry areas, designated donations are not accepted. However, you may donate to special projects, such as mortgage reduction or building/facility development. Donations to the work of various branches of The Canadian Conference of Mennoite Brethren Churches or Mennonite Brethren Church of Manitoba can be made directly to the desired conference agency or can be made through TMP. If you wish to support other organizations, please send donations directly to them.
Why do you have Covenant Membership?
Covenant Membership means much more than having your name in a database. We feel membership can help us achieve what we desire most as Christians. It's our way of saying "Count me in on a great mission." Covenant Members are not spectators: they get involved and learn to use their gifts, talents and abilities. A defined membership lets us know who's on board to live out the mission and vision of the church. We commit to learn how to sacrifice, give generously and make a meaningful difference in our world.
Covenant Membership also affirms that we hold to similar values and beliefs. It ensures that we truly advance the cause of Jesus Christ in a unified way. As an active, inter-connected family, we promise to keep growing and striving to live by shared values in community and accountability.
What does the Bible say about Covenant Membership?
The very moment we believe in Jesus as our Lord and Saviour, the Bible says we become members of the universal church or the Body of Christ. If you are a Christ-follower, you are already an eternal member.
{1 Corinthians 12:12-13; Ephesians 2:13-22; 4:3-6}. The Bible also says all Christians are to be deeply involved as serving participants in a local church community {Romans 12:4-8; 1 Corinthians 12:25-31; 1 Timothy 3:14-15}.
Why do current Covenant Members at TMP re-affirm their commitment annually?
Our lives and situations have the potential for much change, making our spiritual commitments and responsibilities hazy or unsure. It's very easy to lose focus, so on a yearly basis, we re-affirm what we believe and desire to live out. Doing so refreshes us in that commitment and in what being an active member in the body of Christ and TMP is all about.
How can I become a Covenant Member at TMP?
Those seeking to become Covenant Community members must take a course that answers many of the questions pertaining to our mission and vision. This course is followed by a conversation with an elder. Finally, during a Covenant Community gathering we will pray with you and invite you to read our covenant out loud with a group of other new Covenant Members and those re-affirming their commitment. To begin this process, visit our Information Centre at the church or call our office at 204.942.1203.
